“One of the best stays I have had in my life — and I travel quite a bit.”
— Darius, Italy
Some places are just accommodation. Otoch Ixchel is something else.
A four-acre colonial hacienda in Izamal — the Yellow City, a UNESCO Pueblo Mágico — with three individually designed guest rooms, two pools, and lush gardens that guests consistently describe as a sanctuary. Five minutes’ walk from ancient Mayan pyramids that most visitors to the Yucatán never find. Far enough from the tourist trail to feel like a discovery. Close enough to Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, and Mérida to use as a base for the whole region.
Each room is designed around one of the sacred symbols of the Mayan goddess Ixchel — the Moon, the Snake, and the Flower — and filled with commissioned artwork, local artisan pieces, and hand-carved furniture. No two rooms are alike, and none of them feel like a hotel.

Every morning begins with breakfast on the colonial terrace — fresh seasonal fruit, Mayan honey, French press coffee, and whatever the local markets brought in that week. Guests mention it in almost every review.
“Peaceful paradise and picture perfect from every angle — Otoch Ixchel allows the body to reset, the mind to dream, and the spirit to wonder.”
— Heather H., Orlando FL
Hosted by Shelley and Eric — originally from Ireland and Ohio, now firmly rooted in Izamal — Otoch Ixchel was built for curious travelers. People who want more than a poolside chair and end up loving this corner of the world the same way we do.
