Flowers in Mayan culture are not merely decorative. They represent the blossoming of creativity, the arrival of new beginnings, the quiet power of things that grow. Cuarto Rosa is designed around that idea — and it shows in every corner.

The room centers on a queen bed dressed with a woven pink throw, beneath 14-foot ceilings and pink reclaimed pasta tile floors that give the space a warmth that changes with the light. A floral sofa faces the pool, an antique armoire anchors one wall, and a vintage sewing machine sits alongside one of the room’s most quietly remarkable pieces — a henequen plantation truck, repurposed as a coffee table. Henequen, known as green gold, was the economic backbone of the Yucatán for generations; these small trucks once carried the harvested leaves across plantation grounds for processing into twine and rope. It’s a beautiful object with a real history behind it.

Traditional pottery, wooden Mayan carvings, and macramé hangings complete the room, alongside a commissioned hand-carved relief of Ixchel cradling a lotus flower — the third in a series of reliefs that runs throughout the hacienda, culminating in a full depiction of Ixchel in all her glory on the shared terrace, where she watches over the property.

The bathroom is one of the loveliest in the hacienda — large and light-filled, with pink reclaimed tile around the mirror, a rainfall showerhead, and a window that opens onto the second garden. The walls are hung with a mix of original artwork and carefully chosen pieces, anchored by a traditional woven tapestry of hummingbirds. In Mayan belief, hummingbirds carry messages of love between the human world and the divine. It’s not a bad thing to contemplate while you’re getting ready in the morning.

Cuarto Rosa opens onto the shared colonial terrace overlooking the main pool and gardens.

This room is designed around the Flower — Lool in Mayan — symbol of creativity, fertility, and new beginnings. It tends to suit people who are starting something.
