There’s a reason the snake is one of the most powerful symbols in Mayan culture. It sheds its skin and emerges unchanged but transformed — the same creature, renewed. Cuarto Verde is that kind of room.
At around 500 square feet with 14-foot ceilings, the room feels generous without being sprawling. Green reclaimed pasta tile floors set the tone, and windows on either side of the king bed create a natural cross-breeze that makes the Yucatán heat something you can actually sleep through. Antique armoires and chests of drawers give the room a quiet gravitas, alongside two large armchairs positioned to look out at the pool, macramé hangings, and artisan pottery, with a woven green throw on the bed.
Two pieces stop guests in their tracks: a commissioned hand-carved relief of Ixchel entwined with the snake — her symbol of healing and transformation, the second in a series that runs throughout the hacienda — and a beautifully carved wooden serpent. On the wall you’ll also find a pair of traditional woven hammocks, displayed rather than hung for sleeping. They’re a nod to the way many Yucatécans still sleep today, elevated above the ground to catch the breeze. Old solutions to old problems, and still the right ones.
The bathroom features the same green reclaimed tile around the mirror, a rainfall showerhead, and a skylight that fills the space with a soft, diffused light. Quieter than a window, more atmospheric.
Cuarto Verde opens onto the shared colonial terrace overlooking the main pool and gardens — a good place to be at any hour, but especially at dusk.
This room is designed around the Snake — K’aan in Mayan — symbol of transformation, wisdom, and the healing arts. It suits people who arrived carrying something they’re ready to put down.
